Daniel and Robby Grether’s June Prayer Letter
Dear Free Indeed Ministries Intercessors,
Overcoming Fear
…the Lord said to me, ‘Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children so.’ It is the Lord your God you shall fear.(Deut. 4:10, 13)
God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:7)
First the bad news. Robby and I have become more aware that we like sheep are fear-filled creatures. Then the good news. The Lord has been giving us keys to overcoming fears.
Robby discovered awhile back that (1) sins must be confessed (nothing new here), (2) fear (in all of its hundreds of synonyms as well) is sin (doesn’t the Bible say, “Don’t fear 365 times?”), (3) when we realize we are fearful, we are to confess our fear as sin, and (4) God does forgive and cleanse us from our sin and unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Utilizing this God-given process sets us free from our besetting fears.
More recently, I learned (1) we are to Fear God, only, completely and nothing nor anybody else (the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever, Psalm 19:9), (2) if we fear anything else, it will control us (thank you Michael Dye in the Genesis Project), and (3) when we chose to fear God only, all other fears diminish or pass away.
A good friend and I met over lunch recently. He opened his heart to me widely and deeply, sharing long-term wounds, pains and broken relationship that were still unhealed live issues. I explained the concept of “choosing to fear God alone and completely, leaving no fear left over for anything else.” He agreed to do this and did.
For the next hour, I watched Holy Spirit setting him more and more free from everything he had told me about. He verified the following week that all the fear, pain, shame, anger and hurt had “drained out” of him. And the relationship had been restored. Praise the Lord!!!

Table 71 Meeting in Philadelphia, PA at the American Bible Society headquarters and then historical sightseeing – Daniel and Robby Grether
“We are all working together; we can’t do it alone,” Samuel Chiang of the Seed Company said of those of us gathered at Table 71 to make sure that every unengaged people group is receiving the Gospel workers that are needed. There is tremendous traction in this movement.
Our meeting site overlooked Independence Mall, “the most historic mile of America,” the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. Lately America has not been recognizing our other founding document, the Bible. The American Bible Society is preparing to rectify that with its Faith and Liberty Discovery Center,, which hopes to open in 2020, linking Faith to Liberty and Justice right on the Mall.
Robby and I were blessed to experience the heart of historic Philadelphia and our national roots for the first time. I was brought to tears again hearing the stories of slavery at the start of our new nation. We were inspired by the heroes of the American Revolution with their vision of something radically and wonderfully new.

Daniel and Robby Grether
Robby and Daniel Grether, after hours of riding bikes around Philadelphia, stopped for chicken pot pie dinners at the historic City Tavern, which was established in 1773, just in time for the Continental Congress delegates to come here in 1774 for meals and lodging after their work day at Carpenter’s Hall.
